Using BarcodeFox

BarcodeFox offers free tools to make barcodes, label sheets and GS1 Digital Link QR codes, to check check digits, and a public API that returns barcode images. By using any of them you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

No account is needed. You can use the service for personal or commercial work.

Barcode numbers are your responsibility

BarcodeFox draws the data you give it. It does not issue, sell or register barcode numbers, and making a barcode does not give you the right to use the number in it.

  • UPC, EAN and ITF-14 codes for retail products carry a GTIN. GTINs are licensed through GS1, and many retailers and marketplaces only accept GTINs licensed to the brand owner.
  • You are responsible for the content you encode, including that you have the right to use it and that it is accurate on the product or label.
  • BarcodeFox checks the length and check digit, but it cannot know whether a number belongs to you or to the product you label.

Check before you print

Whether a printed barcode scans depends on the printer, the material, the size and the scanner. Test scan decodes the image in software; it is not a print-quality verification. Before a production run, print a sample at the final size and scan it with the devices your customers or partners use. For our advice, see Barcode not scanning?

Acceptable use

Please do not use BarcodeFox to:

  • break the law or infringe anyone’s rights, including by copying another company’s product codes;
  • make counterfeit, misleading or fraudulent labels, or QR codes that lead to phishing or malware;
  • overload, probe or disrupt the website or the API, or get around its rate limit.

The Barcode API

The Barcode API is free and needs no key. Each IP address can make up to 120 requests a minute; requests above that receive an error. You may call the API from your own sites and apps and embed its images. If usage harms the service for others, we may block it without notice.

We aim to keep the documented endpoints stable, but we may change, limit or stop the API. If you depend on it for something important, keep a copy of the images you need.

Your barcodes and our work

The barcodes, QR codes and label sheets you make are yours to use for any purpose, with no watermark and no attribution required. BarcodeFox does not claim ownership of the data you enter or the files you download.

The BarcodeFox name, logo, site design and text belong to BarcodeFox. Open-source components and fonts used by the service are provided under their own licences. GS1, EAN and UPC are trademarks of GS1 AISBL; BarcodeFox is not affiliated with or endorsed by GS1.

No warranty

BarcodeFox is provided free and “as is”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including that it is accurate, fit for a particular purpose, uninterrupted or error-free. We work hard to follow the GS1 specifications, but we do not guarantee that every barcode will scan or be accepted by a particular retailer, carrier or marketplace.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, BarcodeFox is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses arising from your use of the service, such as reprinting costs, rejected shipments, retailer fines or lost sales. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Changes

We may change the service and these terms. When we change the terms, we will update this page and the date at the top. If you keep using BarcodeFox after a change, the new terms apply.
