What is a GS1-128 barcode?

GS1-128 is Code 128 with a defined structure: every field starts with an Application Identifier in brackets, such as (01) GTIN, (10) batch, (17) expiry date or (00) SSCC. Trading partners read product and shipment data from a single scan.
